Here, There, and Everywhere

Birthday Celebration – Hong Kong

The original plan was to travel alone in Hong Kong on my birthday; try its busy street at night, visit the night temple, visit Disney the next morning, then go home on third day. I just really wanted to spend my special day in Disneyland – alone. But you know, things don’t usually happen the way we planned them- I ended up travelling  with my sister and my Mom. The catch? The experience was even better.

My first and last visit in Hong Kong happened 13 years ago. It was also a short vacation as classes were about to start that time so we were only able to Visit Disneyland and Ocean park. This time, I visited the Night Temple, so much for the additional experience right? So, basically, you will be reading how I enjoyed my birthday and not how many places and things I tried in Hong Kong.

We arrived in Hong Kong at approximately 7:30 in the evening. From what I have read, there are buses which we may take to reach the busy streets of Kowloon but since I am with my mother, we took the cab. (Travelling with parents is so much fun, right?)

Another original plan was to stay in a cheap hotel in Kowloon. Guess what? Since I’m with my mother, my father made some quick changes in our hotel accommodation. From pipich to Sheraton Hotel real quick. It took us at least 40 minutes to reach Sheraton from the Airport, we unfortunately was not able to watch the Symphony of Lights which is only at least 15 minutes walk from our hotel as it starts at 8:10 pm and we arrived at around 8:30 pm. (Sheraton is also in Kowloon)

Thank you so much Sheraton for the Birthday greetings.

Since it’s too late for the Symphony of Lights but too early to retire for the day, we decided to visit the Temple Street and Mongkok.

I must say that Night Temple Market may be compared to Philippines’ Divisoria (of course. Some Chinese here can speak Tagalog and they know DIVI.)

From bags, gadgets, accessories, clothes, jades, and quite a lot more. Basically, the first we were able to do was to buy souvenirs for our friends. I was able to purchase some golden tattoos which my friends and I may use as an accessories the next time we hit the beach. There’s an english fortune teller sitting in one of the stalls. After a while, we decided to walk and check Mongkok.

You would enjoy quite a lot of different restaurants and stalls in Mongkok. Dimsum did not entice my mother’s appetite so decided to just buy some egg tarts and then just order our dinner at the hotel.

Egg tart. This is a must try.

We left the hotel at 8:30 in the morning for Disney. We took the cab as it has a rather shorter travel time than if we took the train. That’s 230 hk$ from Mongkok to Disneyland. I was expecting a few number of people visiting the park as it’s a wednesday but the queue was unbelievably long when we arrived, and it’s only 9 AM! I already purchased our tickets online so we’re quite fast in getting the ticket print outs.

The first thing we did at Disney was to ride the train on the Main Street. Board it if you want to reach Fantasyland without walking as the train will stop there. We decided to just enjoy the ride and alight at Main Street again.

We left the hotel with an empty stomach and the hunger is too strong so we decided to have an early lunch at Main Street Corner Cafe hosted by Coca Cola.

They offer various type of foods but I prefered to have the ribs. Man! It was so good that I almost forgot my table manners for I was literally munching it. Lighting was nice as we’re seated on the spot where natural light comes in. Service was fine as some servers were nice and some didn’t even smiled. But the food, oh, it was lovely.

We started roaming around disney after eating.

The picture above is a mist, you can have a little sprinkle of water to refresh yourself as it really hot in the afternoon.

Let’s start to play!

Here are some of the activities we tried:

Hyperspace mountain

Hyperspace mountain is roller coaster ride in the dark ride which is inspired by Starwars. We spent almost 1 and a half hours in line to ride this.

It’s a Small World

It’s a Small World is a 10 – 15 minutes boat ride which showcases the different cultures of countries and “world” by using this little dolls. They play it’s a small world after all in different languages. If you’re scared of dolls, please do not ride this as it tends to be a little freaky. Hahaha.

RC Racer

RC Racer is a car swinging back and forth in a loop. It’s a nice ride but it’s short, though. I unfortunately didn’t had the chance to take a full picture but you may check it on this link if you’re too curious on how it looks like.

We’re also able to try some of the rides which I was not able to take a picture as I was to preoccupied by the anticipation I was feeling.

Do not ever miss the chance to see their short theater act. Check the schedule, I think they only have 4 act per day.

This part, I enjoyed a lot. I saw Tangled, Brave and The little Mermaid sing a mashed up of their iconic themed song. But of course, Elsa was the show’s finale. I can still remember how the kids sing along with here.

Main highlights of Disney experience is the parade and the fireworks at night. This, you also should not miss! Here are some of the pictures.

Parade

More Disney Characters were Present. But when you’re there, you can’t help but to put your camera down and tell yourself, ‘Hey! Those were my childhood friends!’ They call this parade paint the night.

Fireworks

Fireworks or Disney in the stars is the much anticipated night ender of Disneyland. It has always been my favorite part.

It’s true, the magic stay within. ❤

The Fireworks’ aftermath

If Disney is lovely in the morning, Disney is magical at night.

I’m a Disney kid. I sing along with Disney songs! Being here on my birthday was so much fun! Next time, i’ll spend 2 days so I can eat, play, watch everything that the park has to offer!

My stay in Hong Kong was quite short but it was so wonderful. I was not able to roam around well but hey, I celebrated my silver year on a very magical place. 🙂

I must say that if you would wish to experience Hong Kong a, stay for atleast 3 –  4nights. Spend 2 days in Disney, hahaha!

Saving a lot of places to visit for my next trip here.

P.S : Sheraton’s Handy phone is so cool! It’s a phone with free unlimited data and free local call and text. Book your hotel room with them. 🙂

Wait! ONE QUICK TIP! Bring an adaptor like this as all properties do have suckets like this. One is enough, just bring an extension. 😉
